Seven Steps to Achieve Your Goals

Henry David Thoreau wrote, “If one marches confi­dently in the direction of his dreams and endeavors to lead the life he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours.”  A dream without a goal is similar to taking an auto­mobile trip without a road map. You will surely arrive, but where?

Here are seven techniques to achieve your goals:

  1. To inspire yourself make you goals realistic, believable, and achievable. Adjust upward as you achieve your goals will encourage you to persist with your goal journey.
  2. Make your goals measurable. For example instead of writing spend more time with my son, Brad, write spend 60 minutes with Brad every Saturday by taking him to breakfast.
  3. Write your goals on a single sheet of paper. 
  4. Visualize the benefits you will receive when your goals are accomplished will encourage you to keep going toward achieving your goals.
  5. Read your goals every day. Successful achievement depends on commitment to your goals Review reinforces commitment. 
  6. Speak, think, act, and live the traits and qualities you desire.
  7. Reward yourself with each step you make toward achieving your goals.
