Protein is Good for the Brain

Excessive sugar in the diet harms brain function,, can lead to sugar addiction, insulin malfunction, and decline in overall health. On the other hand, diets high in protein may be beneficial to brain health

In a 2012 study, Rosebud Roberts, a professor of epidemiology and neurology at the Mayo Clinic, wanted to test the effects of carbohydrates on the brain. Dr. Roberts divided 1000 people into four groups. Those that ate the most carbs had an 80 percent higher chance of developing mild cognitive impairment. Those who ate the smallest amout of carbs suffered no decline in brain fucntion.

The ketogenic diet, a low-carbohydrate, high protein diet could lessen the chances of developing Alzheimer’s disease. The keto diet reduces dietary sugar. A reducion in sugar decreases brain inflammation and improves brain metabolism.

Futhermore, animal atudies and clinical trials, have shown that the ketogenic diet has a neuroprotective impact on aging brain cells.

The diet has been associated with improved cognitive performance in elderly adults with Alheimer’s disease.

Reducing carbohydrates while increasing dietary protein shows promise for improving cognitive function.

  1. Andrea and I love this and have been a strong advocate for this diet! We are loving proof that this works. It is our néw lifestyle. It is tough as nails the first 2 weeks. After that, it is easy-peasy!

    1. Thanks for telling us that if we make it through the first two weeks, the diet becomes easier to follow.
