Emotional Intelligence

In his best selling book, Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman documented five characteristics of successful leaders:

  1. Self-awareness–the ability to recognize the effects of our emotions on others.
  2. Self-regulation–the ability to control unproductive moods and impulses.
  3. Motivation–a passion for work that goes beyond money or status.
  4. Empathy–the ability to understand the emotional makeup of other people.
  5. Social Skills–proficiency in building rapport.
