In his best selling book, Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman documented five characteristics of successful leaders:
- Self-awareness–the ability to recognize the effects of our emotions on others.
- Self-regulation–the ability to control unproductive moods and impulses.
- Motivation–a passion for work that goes beyond money or status.
- Empathy–the ability to understand the emotional makeup of other people.
- Social Skills–proficiency in building rapport.
