I have just discovered that I need a right hip replacement. Add this inconvenience to other aging challenges–atrial fibrillation, macular degeneration, acoustic neuroma, GERD, prostatic hypertrophy and a senile tremor that draw me nearer to heaven.
Invincibility is no longer an option. I’m having difficulty getting out of cushioned chairs and bending over. I have muscle stiffness, back aches and a stooped posture. A sagging face, turkey chin, receding hairline, wrinkled skin and a growing belly challenge my vanity. Motivation has decreased. I sit more and nap daily. My Type A personality has transformed into a Type L (Lazy). Yes, I’m gradually fading away.
Except for one thing: Sanctification. As we age we grow nearer to overwhelming joy. With each new day, we move toward everlasting peace, and unimaginable love. And new bodies too, the Bible promises.
All of us can take courage in these words:
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2 Corinthians 4: 16-18
