Where has all the toilet paper gone? With the coming of the coronavirus the toilet paper has been going, going, gone. Why?
The disappearance of toilet paper has to do with woke socioeconomic issues thusly:
- First world problem = someone spilled coffee on the leather seat of my Lincoln Continental
- Second world problem = my dented 1958 Edsel won’t start
- Third world problem = my ox died
Most first world people fear losing their conveniences more than they fear becoming infected with the coronavirus. All of us know that the coronavirus pandemic will eventually run its course, and life will settle back down to normal. In the meantime, we want to keep living in the lap of luxury.
But why is toilet paper disappearing? Answer: Bundled toilet paper is a huge item that easily catches the eye. During times of uncertainty we might say to ourselves, “Hey, I might need this;” and we grab the prominent item off the shelf without thinking. The next person passing the toilet paper display says, “Hey, looks like a lot of people are buying toilet paper. I better get some before supplies are gone.”
Suddenly toilet paper becomes a great symbol for our first world lives.
Let’s get beyond the chuckles, chortles, and cackles, and look a little deeper. All the first world things we have aren’t that important. They can all be flushed down the toilet. If we have love, joy, and peace—and lots of laughter (that our first world peccadillos can easily supply)—what else do we really need?
Oh, and by the way: That’s why businesses, schools, arenas, and churches are closing down–they’re running out of toilet paper.
