100-years-old and Counting

Because my mother celebrated her 100th birthday in August, 2021, I became interested in that age group.

There are 97,000 centenarians in the United States. You and I have a 0.0173% chance of living to be 100. By 2060 the U.S. is predicted to have over 500,000 citizens 100-years-old or above.

Discovering how many U. S. citizens were over 100 proved to be much more difficult than I expected. I went to several Internet sources that gave different numbers for age groups.

A Wikipaedia source named all the people over 101. There were too many names in the 101-103 age group for me to be interested in counting. After age 103 the number dropped significantly. According to Wiipaedia seven Americans were 104; four were 105; one was 106-years-old.

Because another source reported that ten Americans were age 113, I don’t trust any of the numbers to be accurate. Hester Ford is the oldest living American (I think). She is 114-years-old.

I don’t know why I went to so much trouble to try to find accurate statistics that couldn’t be found, but I did. I don’t think this one-hour of research aged me any, but it certainly wasted my valuabe time.

Anyway, I thought one or two of you might be interested so I wrote down what I found.
